Festival

On Sunday, August 20, the Festival at Surfside Park will host the annual Dog Days Westonka. This event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Surfside Park and Beach, located at 2670 Commerce Boulevard in Mound. Previously, this event was held on Auditor Road. Other events at the event include paddleboarding, a pet parade, and the Cutest Puppy Contest. There will also be a Splash for Cash and a Blessing of the Animals. The event is put on by the Westonka Community and Commerce and will include all kinds of pet-themed activities and entertainment.

The festival will feature live bands, a boat-in movie, and sponsor booths. In addition, the Spirit of the Lakes will feature a boat-in movie and other activities. The event is free to attend, but there will be printing services for the festival. The Spirit of the Lakes is a family-friendly event that celebrates Mound’s beautiful lakefront. During the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to see some of the region’s best water sports, and enjoy a boat-in movie. Discover more exciting places here.

Planned renovations

The planned renovations at Surfside Park are slated to take place in the next two to five years. The City Council approved a Master Plan for the park on Dec. 11 with a 5-0 vote. The plan is divided into four phases. Phase one will focus on shoreline and erosion issues. Depending on funding, phase two and three will also have picnic shelters and seating areas.

In addition to providing more usable space for events, a series of interior renovations will also include the installation of tensile shade structures along the beach. The structures will be integrated with the new playground to further enhance the identity of the park as a destination for the community. Additionally, funds have been allocated to renovate the Mound Depot Building. The exterior renovations will include new painting and staining of railings, and exterior light fixtures.

Bacteria in the lake

Recent reports have revealed that the bacterial contamination in the lake at Surfside Park Mound is worse than ever. Over 100 people have been sickened and the beach is now closed to the public. The problem is a bacterial bloom that will not go away until the bacteria is cleaned up. You can find the bacterial bloom map on the city’s website or request a copy of the data.

Bacteria blooms in lakes are caused by rain events or storm water discharge. Migratory waterfowl, high boat traffic, and temperature all contribute to bacteria levels in the water. The bacteria outbreak has forced health officials to close some lakes and public beaches in Minnesota. A few of these are in Hennepin County, while others are undergoing routine testing to keep the public healthy.

Dog Days Westonka

This year’s Dog Days Westonka festival is set to be a fun-filled day for both humans and canines. This popular event will be held at Surfside Park and Beach on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where it was previously held along Auditor Road. Activities include paddleboarding, pet-themed food, and more. The Blessing of the Animals will kick off the festivities.

While the festival is free to attend, attendees are asked to bring canned pet food for a local food shelf. Cash donations are also accepted at the main check-in table. The Westonka Community and Commerce is a nonprofit organization that organizes the event. Each year, volunteers from the community volunteer their time to organize the event, which supports various programs in the community.
