To clean your window panes, you can try using different products that contain alcohol or ammonia. But keep in mind that these products can leave a film behind and might even stain the window trim. In fact, they can even damage the integrity of the glass. To prevent this problem, use window cleaners that are safe for glass.
Distilled water
When you’re looking for a window pane cleaner, distilled water is an excellent choice. This liquid has a high sanitising power, and works to remove buildup on windows and frames. But it won’t clean windows that are dirty on the outside. You’ll need to rinse the window thoroughly with clean water.
Tap water contains minerals that dull windows. Distilled water removes these minerals. Aim for a TDS of 0.07 or lower. Any higher than this and you could cause spots on your window.
Windex
Windex window pane cleaner is the best way to get the windows and mirrors of your home or office sparkling clean. Its powerful formula works to break up food stains and grease, leaving windows and mirrors streak-free and sparkling. Windex window cleaner is a good option for commercial use, and it comes in 150-ounce bottles for bulk cleaning. You can use Windex to degrease other surfaces, too. It’s also a great choice for erasing dry erase marker stains on glass surfaces.
Traditional window cleaners often contain ammonia, which is a strong chemical that cuts through dirt and grease and kills some germs. It evaporates quickly, leaving a streak-free surface. However, ammonia is also toxic and should be used with caution. It can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Inhaled, ammonia can cause coughing and can even lead to chemical pneumonia.

This glass pane cleaner is cruelty-free and made from plant-based and mineral-based ingredients. It also contains only a synthetic fragrance. However, it’s pleasant and lasts for a few hours.
Teabag cleaning hack
A teabag can be a very effective window cleaner. All you need to do is steep it for a few minutes and pour it into a spray bottle. You can then use this tea solution to clean your windows using the “S” or “Z” technic. The tea will help remove grease and fingerprints from the windows.
Teabags are also excellent for cleaning glass and stainless steel. A fellow member, Claire, shared her teabag window pane cleaner hack. Claire explained to us that you can use a teabag in a spray bottle to clean the surface. After spraying the solution on the surface, wipe it down using a microfibre cloth.
Reusable microfiber cloths
Reusable microfiber cloths are made from polyester and nylon that are ultra absorbent and lint-free. They are a versatile cleaning tool and are great for washing windows. These cloths are available in green and blue and are long enough to use on larger windows. They are machine washable and will not fade or shrink.
The cloths come in packages of two or four pieces. Each piece is made from premium microfiber and can be used to clean windows and polish glass surfaces. The cloths are also chemical-free and have no residue. They can be used to wipe windows both wet and dry.
Adding fragrance to window cleaner
You can add fragrance to your window pane cleaner to create a pleasant aroma. Lemon juice works just as well as vinegar in cutting through grease and grime, and you can also add a few drops of essential oil for a natural fragrance. Using natural ingredients is better for your general health and the environment.
If you don’t want to use chemical cleaners, you can also make your own window cleaner by combining vinegar with water and essential oils. Just keep in mind that essential oils will break down the plastic bottles and may cause leaks. Pour some of the mixture on the window panes and wipe them clean with a lint-free cloth. You can also spray the mixture on mirrors. Just make sure to spray the solution from a distance and avoid rubbing the window frame with your fingertip or sponge.
