It is located on former Nike Missile Site

The NIKE complex is now a private shooting range and Nike Tykes Daycare, but it used to be a former military indoor range. The site was formerly owned by the United States Bureau of Mines and served as a water-jet rock-cutting research center until 1995. Currently, the Twin Cities Research Center Closure Team manages the site. The Federal Government intends to transfer ownership of the land.

The deteriorating barbed-wire fence and earthen berm are the only things that remain from the time of the missile launch. However, the United States Air Force installed a gap-filling radar dome at the site to detect enemy aircraft flying low. This radar dome would never have been used for a Nike missile launch, but was probably part of the Integrated Fire Control Site. In this way, the former missile site is now a great place to take a stroll!

The HM-69 site was constructed on top of a former missile base. The base housed missiles with nuclear warheads. It is not known what happened to the missiles, but it is still a very impressive site. The museum also displays a model of a Nike missile, complete with a launch site. It is also home to a waste-water treatment facility, which is run by the U.S. Army. See These Helpful Hints!

It is open to the public

The Nike Ajax Missile Site is one of many Cold War defense installations open to the public. Although it is no longer operational, the site features remnants from the Cold War, including old radar equipment, salvaged missile casings, and original base structures. You can also view a model of a Cold War-era missile. If you’re in the area, this is a popular park to visit.
