The Waconia area began to be populated in the early 1850s by Euro-American settlers. The Dakota had been forced west by the Treaty of Mendota. In 1857, a surveyor from Minneapolis surveyed the town site and the first German settlers settled in the town. German immigrants were followed by Swedes, Bohemians, and Swiss in later years. Lake Waconia Regional Park

Located in the heart of the suburbs, Lake-Waconia Regional Park is a great place for family fun, and the community is proud to maintain this location. Located near the Lake Waconia City Park, this park will offer visitors spectacular views of the water while they enjoy a day on the lake. A sledding hill will be upgraded with a tow rope, and the park will feature dramatic views of the lake.

Currently in the initial land acquisition phase, the future Lake-Waconia Regional and City Park will be 130 acres. The park will feature a reservable group picnic shelter, playground equipment, and a small swimming beach. The park also offers views of Coney Island, Minnesota’s largest amusement park. There are private marinas in Waconia, and boaters can use the lake for fishing, crabbing, or boarding.

Lake Auburn Campground

If you love the outdoors, camp in the Waconia City Park Lake Auburn Campground! This beautiful park features 57 camping sites, an unguarded beach, and miles of trails. During the winter, this park is perfect for ice skating and classic skiing! When conditions permit, the campground offers skate ski equipment rentals. There are also activities at the park for the whole family to enjoy. There are five rustic group campsites, as well as scenic overlooks, so you can relax in nature.

The Lake Auburn Campground is located 7 miles east of Waconia. There are more than 10 campsites, with an average grade of 7.7. There are also play structures and playgrounds for children, and a canoe and paddle boat rental are available.
